lpv:spoken text	"This report proposes an EU strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian region. In doing so, it describes the special characteristics of the Adriatic-Ionian macro-region and the difficulties and opportunities that it faces, and calls for specific action to be taken. However, the strategy put forward is based on the ‘three NOs’ principle – no new legislation, no new institutions, no new funding. The strategy can therefore use only the already existing EU financial resources and tools, and funding in this report is placed in the context of the Europe 2020 strategy with the strict conditions that entails. There are a number of other concerns with the report, such as support for contentious major projects, and a call to non-EU states to accelerate the implementation of sectoral acquis, such as the Water Framework Directive, as a condition of accession to the EU. Therefore, while there are positive aspects to the report, I abstained on this motion."@en1
