"I welcome Mr Ashworth’s decision to reject this proposal but, as a fellow British MEP, I would like to draw his attention to the fact that it was actually a British ruse to break the Single Market and to allow GMOs to be registered in particular Member States and rejected in other Member States, in the case of feed, that led us to exactly this problem. We have heard from Mr Andriukaitis that this proposal will bring us closer to the citizens, but many speakers have rejected that and have said that, in fact, it is an anti—democratic move and part of an attempt to steamroll us into accepting GMOs when we do not wish to do so. So I would like to ask Mr Ashworth whether his rejection of the Commission proposal is consistent with the position the British Government has taken on GMOs and whether this is driven more by a desire to feed the world’s poor or a by a Eurosceptic approach to European policy—making."@en1
