"Madam President, the latest developments in the escalation of Israeli-Palestinian violence will not bring about peace. Israeli and Palestinian leaders need to use their authority to curb, rather than incite, the current wave of violence. There is no sense of future with Israel systematically eating away at Palestinian land. There is a feeling among Palestinians that no one cares. The two-state solution is at risk of being lost; it must not remain a dream.
Violence only brings about more violence. The great danger is that it will turn into a religious conflict. There is a lack of attention from the international community. We, the EU, cannot turn our backs on this. People are crying out for a solution: we must give them hope. It is the right of every human being to live with dignity, peace and security: two States living side by side in peace and security.
