"The recent scandals over potential false readings of carbon emissions in certain vehicles have highlighted the importance of continued vigilance in this sphere. The threat that carbon emissions oppose to our way of society by inducing large scale climate change is a problem we must face up to very quickly.
Yet this is not the only chemical being poured into our atmosphere that could irreversible change our planet. I was therefore perturbed to see that Member States have recently agreed to allow the further pumping of nitrous oxide from diesel cars at double the Euro 6 levels agreed in 2007. Therefore I backed this motion and hope that the Commission and the Member States can work with us in the Parliament to get real on automotive emissions of all kinds instead of making a Faustian pact that could compromise all of our futures."@en1
