"This report relates to many areas of legislation that are of great importance, net neutrality among them, but for me, and for many I suspect, the stand out point is an end to mobile phone roaming charges from June 2017 across the entire EU. This is exactly the type of legislation that the EU should be about – helping consumers, removing barriers, and furthering the single market. Some in this House have sought to paint the changes as a market intervention that will provide cut-cost international roaming to a jet-set elite whilst leaving poorer, domestic customers to pick up the costs as service providers increase the price of basic tariffs to offset losses. This is complete nonsense. This was a legitimate concern during negotiations and so the legislation has been crafted with sufficient safeguards to prevent this from happening. This is a good news EU story and I am pleased to have voted in favour."@en1
