"On the Collin-Langen (IMCO) ‘Package travel and linked travel arrangement’, I abstained. Whilst I acknowledge that there were positive aspects to this report, especially regarding improving and protecting consumer rights, there were lingering concerns, particularly on the level of harmonisation involved for implementation, as it is based on the assumption that it is suitable for all 28 Member States.
Also, at the European Council of Ministers during the summer Ireland withdrew its support, citing that it risks hindering innovation and competition. There are also data protection concerns, and the degree of compensation for consumers around cancellations of packages by a travel organiser was not adequately addressed."@en1
