"Turkey, as a NATO ally, as a G20 economy and as the most successful Muslim democracy in the world is a partner Europe needs. Today more than ever, the EU cannot deal with the refugee crisis without Turkish help. It is ironic that once again Europe is allowing important foreign policy decisions to be driven by events than long term strategy. To those of my colleagues who say we promised too much in the EU – Turkey Joint Action Plan - I say the question is not whether we work with our ally Turkey but how we can strengthen our existing cooperation. The EU will need Turkey beyond the current refugee crisis. As a democratic Muslim country, Turkey is a role model for the whole Muslim world. As a NATO member, essential for our security. And as the fastest growing economy in Europe, crucial for our economic well—being."@en1
