"Mr President, thanks are due to the rapporteur and the shadows. Twenty-five years ago, when the original Package Travel Directive came into being, few of us in this room had an e—mail address, never mind a mobile phone, so fast—forwarding to 2015 and making this directive fit for purpose for our digital world are vital to ensure that consumer rights are protected. I welcome the inclusion of click-through, a linked arrangement which some people call dynamic travel, the new insolvency and liability coverage, the improved consumer information, which will ensure that a consumer will know exactly who to go to and how should unforeseeable circumstances arise, and also the protection of three days’ coverage if something bad happens, as this will ensure that the traveller is much better protected. I know that this deal was hard fought for, and I welcome the review in 2018. Now it is up to the Member States to put this directive into law and I would like to see that happen sooner rather than later to ensure that consumers can benefit from these new rules as quickly as possible."@en1
