"I voted in favour of this resolution, which changes the Structural Funds regulation and investments to allow advance structural fund payment, and to facilitate pre-financing and co-financing, to Greece. This amendment offers a brief and minor relief to Greece's economy, allowing it to quickly access these vital funds.
Tighter financing conditions, as well as economic uncertainties in recent months, have caused liquidity problems, disrupting investment programs and the ability of the Greek authorities to fully utilise the available EU funds.
The Greek economy is in urgent need of a cash injection, as funds for public investment to revive the economy are lacking. This means that Greece is less able to co-finance this policy, and many projects may not be completed.
The resolution is also urgent because if Greece does not use the funds still available under the 2007 – 2013 funding period before the end of 2015, these funds will be lost, and Greece will miss out on about 2 billion euros for much-needed projects and job creation."@en1
