"Mr President, first of all I want to welcome the EUR 30 million that the Commission has made available and put aside for the migrant issue because I was disturbed to hear in this Parliament that in some migrant and refugee camps people are being given only 800 calories a day and there is no milk for babies. This is really important from a humanitarian point of view. Commissioner, I welcome the joined-up thinking between the President of the Commission, Mr Juncker, and yourself on agriculture issues and I welcome your rapid response. I have been here a while and I have seen previous Commissioners ignore our call for a response, so I welcome all of those things and, in particular, your focus on the food supply chain. You have our support on that, so keep up the work. Let me talk about what is happening globally. In Canada, where they have tightly regulated price and market controls, they are dumping milk. They have a problem in their marketplace. In New Zealand, where they have a free market with no controls, their farmers are literally going out of business with huge mental health and financial problems being experienced. In the US, with counter-cyclical payments, they have greater volatility than we do. There is no quick fix. We have to put our heads together and find one."@en1
