"I abstained on this report, because while it contained many important positive aspects, it also contained certain aspects that I know the Social and Solidarity Economy sector find very problematic. The most significant positive element in the report is that it calls for formal and institutional recognition of the social and solidarity economy sector. However, the report also calls for the opening up of the SSE sector to facilitate private investment and private profit. Those active in the sector are very wary of moves such as this and have indicated to Sinn Féin that they oppose such measures. Of particular cause of concern were paragraphs 24, 25 and 31, which included a call to bring together potential investors and specialised funds; a call for a European trustmark for ‘social entrepreneurship’ in order to enabling investors to identify funds with an SSE portfolio; and for the use of risk capital funds in financing SSE."@en1
