"I β and my British Labour colleagues β will be voting to remove from the resolution on βthe implementation of the 2011 white book on transport' the reference to the Council of Ministers being asked to resolve the dispute between the UK and Spain with respect to Gibraltar airport that is preventing the implementation of a number of EU directives regarding air transport.
First, there is no dispute. This issue was resolved with the Cordoba Agreement, when there was a comprehensive settlement of a number of outstanding issues regarding Gibraltar. The UK and Gibraltar fully implemented their side of the agreement while the incoming conservative government in Madrid subsequently reneged on what had been agreed by the previous Socialist government.
Second, there should be no attempt now or in the future to resolve any outstanding issues in Gibraltar in the absence of representatives of the Government of Gibraltar. The European institutions are right to be concerned at the delays to implement sound and sensible regulations regarding air transport and passengers' rights, but the pressure should be firmly applied to those responsible for the current impasse, which is solely the current conservative government in Madrid."@en1
