"Mr President, we have a crisis, a terrible crisis with great human cost. Now is not the time for weak politicians to take panic measures based purely on emotion. We have a situation where there are war-torn countries that we helped to destroy. We have people traffickers making a fortune from dealing in these suffering people. We have deaths caused by people encouraged to travel to the EU.
So what do we need to do? Well why do we not tackle the people traffickers? Why do we not stop the root cause? Why do we not stop interfering in other people’s countries and helping their destruction? And why do we not make it clear that we will allow genuine asylum seekers but we cannot allow everyone, so there is no need or motivation for people to come en masse and risk their lives this way.
Knee-jerk surrender of our borders is not the answer to this current crisis. Calm, thought-through, strong solutions are the way forward."@en1
