"I voted against this report as it is Sinn Fein’s position that the TTIP being negotiated by the EU and United States will have disastrous consequences for democracy in Member States, the environment, labour rights and public services. This report endorsed the TTIP negotiations, which have been carried out in secret. I voted in favour of several amendments which ranged from an outright rejection of the TTIP project to protection of workers’ rights, food and water standards, public services, and the environment. I voted in favour of the joint GUE-NGL/EFDD/Greens amendment calling for a ‘positive list’ approach when dealing with services. On the critical issue of the ISDS – investor-state dispute settlement – there were two key compromise amendments, 117 (proposed by rapporteur Lange) and 118 (proposed by the Greens). I voted against Amendment 117 and in favour of Amendment 118. Amendment 117 aims to replace the ISDS system with a ‘new system’ which still retained the fundamental element of investors being able to sue states over public policy that may curtail corporate profits, which I believe is unacceptable. On the other hand, Amendment 118 called on the Commission to reject the inclusion of ISDS in TTIP as other remedies are already available."@en1
