"I am strongly in favour of ensuring that artists and creators are fairly remunerated for their intellectual property, and I believe that this right is protected in this report which clearly states that it must be protected in the digital age.
I am in favour of rights for consumers to access content without undue restrictions such as geo-blocking, provided that intellectual property creators are remunerated fairly.
I voted against amendment 46, the ‘panorama’ amendment, which aimed to restrict the free use of images and photographs of public buildings. The second part of amendment 46 called for prior authorisation to be required for the use of a picture of a public building, which I believe is absurd and impractical.
I also voted no to Am1, ‘After§57’. While it was couched in the language of protecting quality-journalism, it is better known as the ‘Google tax’ and it was aimed at reducing the rights of internet-users to hyperlink to other websites without paying a fee, which would have been a major boost to massive search engines while limiting access to information online.
If either of these two amendments had passed, I would not have been able to support the report. However, both fell."@en1
