"There were some positive aspects in this review of the ENP. It highlighted the importance of women’s rights, gender equality, human rights, cultural diversity, LGBTI rights, rights of minorities, rights of people with disabilities, etc. in the context of the ENP. Furthermore, the review referred to Article 2 of Association Agreements which bases these agreements on respect for human rights. It goes on to say that policies that jeopardise values, such as respect for human rights should not be adopted under the ENP and that the EU cannot compromise its values. I welcome these points. Unfortunately, in practice, we see that the EU’s relationship with Israel continues to jeopardise these values by failing to take action on Israel’s persistent violation of human rights in Palestine. This review calls for a strengthening of a Common Foreign and Security Policy. It calls for Member States to align their efforts so as to speak with a single voice on issues concerning the Eastern Neighbourhood countries. Sovereignty over Irish foreign policy is of utmost importance to the Irish people and to Sinn Féin. Therefore I abstained on this Review of the European Neighbourhood Policy."@en1
