"Madam President, I would like to congratulate Laura Agea on a great report which has had a very wide degree of consensus here. We all agree that successful businesses are ones which value their workers, which pay them properly, which look after them and their health and safety and which treat them with respect. There is a very wide degree of consensus across nations and across political groups in this House but not, unfortunately, in the United Kingdom, where the government does not believe those things at all. We have recently had a reduction in unemployment in the United Kingdom to levels not seen since the previous Labour government, but it is poor-quality employment, employment in which five million people are in low-paid jobs. Two million people are on zero-hour contracts. That is the difference, the fundamental philosophical difference, and it is one in which, I am afraid, they are wrong and in this House people are right."@en1
