Our rapporteur speaks of the cost of EU membership as a percentage of GDP. This is a conjuring trick – GDP is of course roughly three times our total tax take. Nor does he take into account the huge cost of compliance with European Union legislation. This will be more of the same budget for more of the same European Union. If the Greek teaches us one thing, it is that this is no time for more of the same. One of the problems here is the EU principle of ever closer union, because who here will dare to admit that anything, anything at all, could be done more efficiently by a sovereign nation than by the Brussels bureaucracy?"@en1
