"The British Conservatives voted against this proposal for Draft Amending Budget No 4 (DAB4), which seeks an additional EUR 66 million beyond the agreed Budget for 2015. While we support the principle and objectives of the EU Solidarity Fund, the Conservatives have been consistently clear that we want to see real budgetary restraint in the EU in order to avoid unaffordably high costs for Member States. Our view is that the Commission must always look first to reallocate funds from within existing agreed budgets, such as the EU Solidarity Fund, to meet emerging in-year payments, rather than coming straight to the Member States to request additional money. As the Commission has not made any effort to do this, my colleagues and I voted against this request."@en1
