"Madam President, my constituents in the UK have been in touch with me in massive numbers to voice their opposition to TTIP. This Parliament needs to understand the strength of opposition to this deal in the UK. For far too long, the European Parliament and the European Union have pushed through proposals that people simply do not want. Even the European Constitution – the Lisbon Treaty, which was rejected by voters when they were consulted – was pushed through in the same anti—democratic way. I did not come to the European Parliament expecting to side with the Left in this Chamber, but I do so on TTIP for good reasons. In my country, the privatisation of health care by different governments has been a disaster. In the ENF Group, we say no to TTIP in the interest of big Brussels and big business. We say no to a deal that is not in the best interest of patients, voters or individual Member States. I am not here to represent the private interests who want to force through a TTIP which suits them. I am here to represent all those in the EU and Britain who say no to trade deals which are negotiated in secrecy by the European Union, and yes to a Europe of free and sovereign nations."@en1
