"Madam President, it is a quarter to 11 at night and there is nobody here, but there are some people who are interested in some of the things that we do. I have had 10 000 e-mails in the last month about the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which we were due to vote on a couple of weeks ago in Strasbourg – that is 10 000 interested constituents and millions of interested constituents all over the continent.
We were due to vote here in the European Parliament. There you have some engagement – we are thinking about something and they are interested in it. You would think that would be good news. So what did we do? We cancelled the vote and the discussion because there had been too many amendments and we were not quite ready to do it. We will have had a month by July, so please can we have the vote and the discussion next month and not leave it – and leave these millions of interested people – until the autumn before we bring this back? That would be ridiculous."@en1
