"I welcome this focus on efforts aimed at improving energy security across the Member States. The presence of an energy supply that is stable and affordable in EU regions is of vital importance to national economies, to consumers and to households, including those most vulnerable. The recent drop in oil and fuel prices has come as welcome news to motorists and homeowners seeking to heat their homes. However, there are very real fears that the positive impacts of these reductions have not been felt nearly enough – and particularly by those working in agriculture and construction, who have not enjoyed subsequent cuts in their input costs. This is worrying and requires both national and EU attention. Of course, greater supply can aid this, and it is vital that T-ENE Projects of Common Interest (PCI) start to receive crucial funding to carry out projects that stand to ensure better regional, national and trans-national connectivity in terms of the energy market. At the core of this are many exciting projects, including a number in my own constituency, Northern Ireland, that stand to consolidate supply and storage in renewables, with potentially transformative impacts for consumers and businesses, including in rural areas."@en1
