"Mr President, I voted for Amendment 1. I come from an area that is potentially in danger from the production of shale gas. All our water courses are connected. I find it interesting that Ms Clune talks about a study that is coming forward from the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). As far as I can understand, that study was presented at the Oireachtas Committee on the Environment today in the Republic of Ireland, and I think it is important to point out that the organisation that did that study and which was commissioned to do it – CDM Smith – are actually involved in the fracking and the shale gas industry. They led the move into Poland. They support shale gas. So really it is a bit like going and asking the ‘Lard Council’ whether it is a good idea to eat lard and is it good for your cardiovascular system? Well we know what the ‘lard council’ will say – yes of course, it is good for you – because they have an interest in selling it. We know damn well what CDM Smith will say. They will say it is fine, because that is what they do as a business. Hardly independent, is it, Ms Clune?"@en1
