"Mr President, the United Kingdom will soon have a referendum on whether we leave the European Union. Regarding that, I support wholeheartedly that we should do so. But, during that debate, there will be many occasions when arguments will be put forward that, by leaving the European Union, the United Kingdom will not have a voice within the European Union or indeed across the world.
Here today, in this motion, we see Iceland, a smaller nation than the United Kingdom – Iceland with less GDP and less influence in the globe than the United Kingdom – entering into an agreement with the European Union on a matter that is crucial for the people of the world: how we deal with our environment and how our international partners in Kyoto agree on what we should do with the environment.
This proves today that the United Kingdom, outside of the European Union, would be able to negotiate and have trade deals with the European Union. We do not need to be a member of it to succeed in the future."@en1
