"Mr President, I too was pleased to support these proposals and delighted to see them adopted by a large majority: 584 out of 651 voting in favour. This extension to the Kyoto Protocol by the Doha Amendment is very important in sending a strong signal that we are serious about tackling climate change, as most people now agree that climate change is occurring and that it is a challenge to us.
It is, therefore, very important – ahead of the Paris Conference in December – that we do everything to ensure that we keep to the 2° Celsius objective. Therefore, motivating businesses, motivating individuals and, above all, motivating other countries to come on board is going to be vital. If we do that, then we can make good progress."@en1
