"Madam President, in this Chamber tomorrow it will be decided whether the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Programme goes forward, in the form of an agreement between the EU and the US. It impacts on all citizens across Europe and it has huge negative effects, and my constituents in the North-West have concerns, particularly over the NHS. This particular proposal is in exactly the same vein. It wants to give powers to the Commission to negotiate deals on intellectual property rights, on behalf of companies in the EU, with non-EU countries. Who do you think will benefit from such a deal? The small smart new company in Manchester with a bright idea, or the huge multinational, which works on secret EU working committees – will they be the ones who benefit from this particular proposal? I think Members know the answer to that, and it gives another reason why the UK should be leaving the European Union."@en1
