"This motion for a resolution calls for the Commission to come forward with new proposals to unblock discussions on the maternity leave directive. After four years of deadlock, there had been fears that the Commission would withdraw the original proposal without presenting a replacement text. The original Maternity Leave Directive aimed to extend the minimum length of maternity leave and protect the health and safety of workers who have recently returned to work after giving birth. Labour MEPs voted in favour of this resolution because we want to protect the rights of working parents and enable mothers, and fathers, to balance their work and family lives."@en1
