lpv:spoken text	"UKIP abstained on the non-legislative and non-binding resolution on the situation of the maternity leave directive. This resolution was more to do with the EU procedural situation that the content of the legislation. UKIP totally opposes the EU creating laws over the UK – the only people that should make such legislation are elected national governments, accountable to voters at the ballot box, not unaccountable EU institutions. Once EU legislation has passed, the only people that can initiate new, begin to repeal or start amendment of it is the EU Commission and they are not elected. However due to misrepresentation by the British press and other parties UKIP abstained to show that we are not opposed to maternity leave. What we are opposed to is unelected Commissioners in Brussels creating the law."@en1
