"Madam President, my party and I voted against the Commission proposals that were the subject of the report by Cora van Nieuwenhuizen on benchmarks and giving more power to the Commission. Benchmarks are an essential part of the financial sector and markets. Regulation is already covered in the UK by our own regulator. This regulation extends the scope to include commodities and on their benchmarks and we believe there should not be more reach and over-reach by the EU. These regulations will result in fewer benchmarks and less price discovery, and give non-EU investment managers and businesses a competitive advantage over Europe and the UK. It will drive jobs out of Europe and lower economic growth. Once again, I will say ‘yes’ to the UK and ‘no’ to the EU, because once again, the EU is driving business out of Europe."@en1
