"A Uachtaráin, is féidir a rá, is dócha, go bhfuil na moltaí seo ag teacht beagáinín déanach ach is fearr déanach ná riamh. Tá súil agam gur féidir linn na moltaí seo a chur i bhfeidhm chomh luath agus is féidir ar mhaithe le lucht gnó agus saoránaigh na hEorpa. It is estimated that a properly functioning Digital Single Market could create 3.8 million jobs and bring EUR 415 billion into the European economy. Obviously, we all welcome that and want it to happen, and certainly these proposals are a step in the right direction and can be implemented as soon as possible. One area I would like to focus on, though, is education. The fact that there are so many high-tech jobs lying idle in Europe at the minute because of unqualified personnel is an indictment of the educational system, especially at the third-level and in universities, who like to see themselves as leaders. Certainly I welcome the fact that they are stepping up to the plate now, but from now on they need to be ahead of the curve, not behind it, if we are to create a Digital Single Market. I particularly welcome movements such as CoderDojo, a voluntary group which is helping to create the programmers and the coders of the future. Education – from kindergarten to third-level – is vital for the creation of the market. Finally, I welcome the points made about copyright, broadband and roaming. As Ms Grossetête said, the future is going to be digital, so let us get with the digital game."@en1
