"Madam President
two years ago the collapse of the Rana Plaza garment factory tragically revealed the real price of unbridled globalisation in showing consumers across Europe that cheap clothes too often come with cheap labour rights and little safety at work. The companies named in this resolution should cough up the compensation they owe.
This week workers around the world marked International Workers’ Memorial Day, when we remember those killed or injured at work or victims of occupational diseases, and we commit to make working conditions better throughout the world. In Bangladesh much needs to be done. The latest International Labour Organisation (ILO) report demonstrates that basic legal changes are needed and workers are still subject to violence and intimidation for trade union activities. This is why I supported and co-signed the resolution."@en1
