"Unfortunately the Member opposite does not really understand the problems that Ireland has gone through. The problems that Ireland unfortunately went through were as a result of an appalling decision taken by the Irish Government in terms of a bank guarantee. That was not a decision imposed on the Irish people but unfortunately the government of the day took that decision. We have been living with the consequences of that ever since. That is why it is crucial that we get enhanced lending opportunities from the European Investment Bank – which we have – and we have shown, in that way, that we can improve our prospects by making those decisions work for Ireland."@en1
