"I support the idea of tackling EU fraud by pooling together the resources of Member States in the areas of investigation and prosecution. It is important that Member States work together in protecting the EU budget. The interim report raises some good points with regards to possible structures of the EPPO such as the importance of ensuring complete transparency in the process of establishing an EPPO as well as complete independence from national politics. The EPPO has to be drafted in a way that there is no conflict between national constitutional rules and secondary EU law. The European Parliament is not included in the co-decision meaning that the Council are not obliged to take into account any recommendations made. I have chosen to abstain from the vote on the interim report as it is still unclear what the structure of the EPPO will be and the impact such a structure could have on the UK criminal system."@en1
