"Without taking sensible measures to ensure that our fish stocks are sustained, our fish stocks will eventually be depleted entirely, which will damage the UK fishing industry in the long term as well as negatively impacting consumers through higher prices due to reduced supply of fish and costs of imports. Measures to ensure that fish stocks remain healthy and to prevent wastage are beneficial to consumers and the industry.
I have stressed the need for a regionalised approach to these proposals as it is clear that a one-size-fits-all policy will not work and could negatively affect fishing regions that require a different approach to sustainability. I am also pleased to support the proposals that allow fisherman enough time to adapt to these new measures that will benefit the South-West fishing industry and fisheries in the long run."@en1
