"It is appropriate that we vote on this report a few days after International Women's Day. Progress is being made in achieving equality between men and women but statistics show that women's ambitions are still too often stifled. We should be making concerted efforts, for example, to achieve gender balance on boards not just of companies but in the public and third sectors too. Unfortunately, women must still put up with misogynist behaviour such as was witnessed at last weekend’s Labour party conference in Scotland. These attitudes should be consigned to the past – along with the Labour party in Scotland."@en1
