"I supported the proposal to ask the EU Commission to come forward with a proposal for mandatory country of origin labelling in processed foods. As of April 2015, fresh or frozen unprocessed meat from pigs, sheep, goats and poultry will have to bear information on where the animal was reared and slaughtered. However, the European Parliament has now asked the Commission to come forward with a proposal to ensure that all meat used as an ingredient in processed food, like ready-made meals should have country of origin labelling. This requirement is already there for fresh beef and beef products since January 2002 because of the BSE crisis. We now need the same regulation for all other meat products."@en1
