"A recent survey carried out by the European Commission showed approximately 90% of European citizens believe clear labelling is important. Since the horsemeat scandal of 2013, consumers have been concerned with knowing the origin of their food. Country of origin labelling is already mandatory for all meat products; it is the obvious next stage to extend that to meat when it is an ingredient in food products.
Another clear advantage is that this will enable the consumer to buy nationally produced meat. As a strong supporter of farmers in Scotland, I welcome any legislation that encourages this.
Therefore, I was happy to follow the UK Government and ECR Group line and vote in favour."@en1
