"Mandatory labelling of country of origin of meat in processed foods is a step towards rebuilding consumer trust in meat products following the horsemeat scandal and enabling consumers to make more informed choices. Country of origin labelling is already in place for beef following the BSE crisis and today’s vote calls for this to be extended to cover meat from pigs, sheep, goats and poultry. I supported today’s vote but hope that when the Commission brings forwards its proposals they will do so whilst minimising any cost burdens on producers and consumers to ensure the measures are implemented proportionately and cost effectively."@en1
