"Labelling is no guarantee that meat will be processed correctly. There is a trade-off between consumer desire for transparency and consumer desire to keep costs down, for example. We are talking here about processed foods, which are not a single food item. If you are sourcing ingredients from different sources on a day-to-day basis, then there are issues with administration. Low-priced products could be lost as a result of this resolution. Voluntary labelling is one thing; legislation for mandatory labelling is another thing altogether. On the other hand, I recognise that British farmers want to have their products labelled. For their sake, I abstained rather than voting against."@en1
