"I am deeply disappointed that Parliament has failed to reach agreement on the Commission Work Programme for 2015, because this hampers Parliament in its most crucial role, which is making sure the Commission develops a programme that addresses citizens’ priorities, and holding the executive to account in the implementation of this programme. I believe our citizens deserve strong EU action that delivers growth, quality jobs and progress on tackling climate change. 25 million people in the EU do not have a job, over 224 000 of whom live in my region of the West Midlands. If we really want to address this, we need to kick-start action on tackling tax havens and develop a truly integrated strategy for job creation. This means finally realising that the economy cannot be fuelled without adopting strong policies on issues like affordable housing, energy poverty, and education. It is equally disappointing that the Commission has withdrawn the Air Quality Package, while the future of the Circular Economy Package is shrouded in clouds – pieces of legislation which have the potential to save lives and create hundreds of thousands of jobs. I hope the Commission will finally connect the dots on all these issues in 2015."@en1
