There were many who felt, whatever their personal feelings about the recognition of Palestine or otherwise, that it was actually for Member States and not this European Parliament to recognise the state of Palestine. But we have now voted and we have to be clear that, if we are to achieve a longstanding sustainable peace, all parties to this conflict have to play their role. Fatah have to tackle their corruption, Hamas have to renounce their terrorism, and the Israelis and the Netanyahu government – to be quite clear – have to rein back the settler movement and respect the 1967 borders. Then we can truly move towards a sustainable peace between the two states."@en1
