"I voted in favour of this motion because the proposal repeals Directive 93/5/EEC on assistance to the Commission and cooperation by the Member States in the scientific examination of questions relating to food. The aim of this Directive initially was to ensure the smooth running of the Scientific Committee on Food. In 2002, however, the scientific tasks entrusted to the Scientific Committee on Food were taken over by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and Decision 97/579/EC establishing the Scientific Committee on Food was repealed. Directive 93/5/EEC has thus become obsolete."@en1
