"I am delighted to vote today on the candidacy of Emily O’Reilly for the role of Ombudsman, as I was equally delighted to sign her nomination papers for this position.
The European Ombudsman plays an important part in ensuring that EU institutions adhere to the principle of good administration and respect EU citizens’ rights under the Treaties and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
The Ombudsman is independent, she is impartial and it is only right that she is. Her role is to ensure that European institutions abide by the principles of good administration and respect for EU citizens’ rights as guaranteed by the Treaties and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
Ms O’Reilly has done an outstanding job as Ombudsman after taking over the position in 2013 following the retirement of Nikiforos Diamandouros and I am delighted to see her remain in place."@en1
