"Mr President, it is important that we take a strong line on tax avoidance. It is unacceptable that large corporations are getting away with using facilities paid for by citizens without contributing their fair share in return because certain countries are exploiting loopholes in legislation. President Juncker has serious questions to answer about this and we will make sure he does.
But, instead of bringing down the Commission, we should make it tackle the issue head-on. That would truly be in the interests of our citizens. I strongly doubt that it was the interests of our citizens which guided the instigators of this motion for resolution in the first place. I wonder: might they just be after a prolonged inquiry that is not necessarily the best way to tackle this issue and just keeps them in the news? That is why I voted against this motion."@en1
