"Mr President, I want to talk about the development aspects of climate change. Commissioner and Mr Gozi, I have a question for you, which is that we all know that climate change is already a problem for developing countries – I am very pleased we had the meeting in Berlin last week where we made progress on climate finance – and we have all talked about COP 2021 this morning, but before we get to Paris – between now and Lima and Paris – we have got the SDG meeting at the UN General Assembly next September, and climate and sustainability will be a big part of that agenda as well.
Yesterday we adopted Mr Stier’s excellent report here in this Parliament about the SDG and the post-2015 process. I want to know how you in the Commission are working together on the SDGs because – as you know, Commissioner – these two processes are going to be linked at the United Nations. The SDGs are also going to be universal. They are not just going to be like the old MDGs applying to developing countries; they are going to apply to us as well. So how are you working inside the new Commission to link those things together? I wonder, too, how the Council is dealing with this. What process has it set in place to make sure the two things make sense, are linked together and really deliver something on climate change?"@en1
