"Mr President, I rise to condemn the outgoing Commission for raiding the emergency fund for agriculture to create a crisis reserve and thus taking 433 million out of direct payments to farmers which equates to 1.3% across the board. I order the new Commission to reverse this act of sabotage with all possible haste, in line with the request of the Ministers for Agriculture to their Ecofin counterparts and also a cross-party letter signed by Members Dess, De Castro, Nicholson and Rohde. This is coming at the worst possible time for farmers, as morale is low due to the Russian embargo, milk prices being in free fall and, in my own country, a differential in beef prices of EUR 350 between similar cattle in Ireland and the United Kingdom, leading to an embargo in the last few weeks to protest at various stipulations such as age restrictions, movement restrictions and a grading system that even Einstein could not understand! So I order the new Commission to look at these issues."@en1
