"I have been very concerned about the nomination of several Commissioners-designate whose hearings did not convince me or who did not fully meet the criteria of independence, absence of conflicts of interest and commitment to EU values. In particular, as a member of the Committee on Culture and Education (CULT), I was very unsatisfied that the Committeeʼs vote rejecting the portfolio for culture, education, youth and citizenship to Mr Navracsics was insufficiently taken into account by Mr Juncker. I have also been concerned by the lack of effort to reach gender equality in the new Commission. Nevertheless, I believe that having a functioning Commission in place as soon as possible for the EU to work in the best interests of the citizens is crucial. In addition, Member States are responsible for nominating their candidates for Commissioners and the composition of the new Commission reflects the political reality across the EU. My political group has had a strong input into this new Commission and we will continue to insist on the close cooperation with Parliament that Mr Juncker has committed himself to. For all these reasons, I voted in favour of the approbation of the new European Commission proposed by Mr Juncker."@en1
