"Madam President, I voted against the joint resolution on Palestine because I believe it sends a message to Israel that it can continue to carry out its genocide campaign against the people of Palestine with impunity. I think people across Europe are going to be disappointed to learn that this House, including MEPs from Ireland, voted against resolutions today that would, for example, have called for the release of 34 legally elected Palestinian representatives; they would have called for an international committee to be constituted to investigate the war crimes committed during the most recent Israeli aggression; they would have called on the EU to implement its own Article 2 of the EU-Israel Association Agreement by freezing the agreement as long as Israel continues its violation of human rights; and would have demanded reparations from Israel for projects that the EU itself funded and that Israel destroyed in its most recent attack on Gaza. There has been lots of talk, in this World War I centenary year, of the European Union being a symbol of peace. The actions of this House today, by contrast, make the European Parliament a symbol of international inaction against the illegal war being waged against the Palestinian people."@en1
