"Mr President, as a Green MEP, I call for the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) to be rejected because it contains a damaging investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) mechanism, which threatens both democracy and the democratic process. The public consultation the Commission ran on the inclusion of a very similar ISDS system in the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) agreement with the USA prompted 150 000 responses, and I think they are still being analysed. I would ask why the inclusion of ISDS in CETA is still going ahead without any heed for public opinion and concerns. If ISDS remains in CETA it is a step closer to corporations writing our laws instead of governments, and the UK Government, to its shame, supports CETA as it stands. I implore David Cameron and the other Heads of State to reject it, as the Greens certainly have every intention of doing when it comes before Parliament ..."@en1
