"Since the onset of the economic crisis youth unemployment has become a serious problem in the EU where 23.6 % of our youth are now unemployed, which is almost double the adult rate. In Ireland our youth unemployment rate is 23.7 %; this, combined with the mass emigration, equates to a lost generation. A stronger commitment and improved monitoring are needed from Member States to improve the situation of young people. Jobs are not just about money for our youth, they are also about dignity and self-worth. Our young people need access to quality jobs that respect their rights, including the right to stability and security through a job that has a decent and fair wage, social protection and enables a secure life of dignity and autonomy. The Youth Guarantee needs to be to be monitored effectively and we need to be updated regularly on its progress."@en1
